SCHOOL AND NCP FEEDING
School Feeding Programme:
Save the Children facilitates the delivery of food commodities including Cereals, Pulses and Vegetable Oil. In partnership with WFP, the organization supports over 74,300 pupils in the Lubombo and Shiselweni Regions. These food commodities are delivered to all pre and primary schools based in the areas highly affected by drought and HIV/AIDS, i.e., Lowveld, Lubombo Plateau and Dry Middleveld in both Shiselweni and Lubombo regions.
Save the Children is responsible for training support staff in these schools i.e. all cooks, school feeding focal teachers, school principals and school committees on the various subjects. These include:
a) Food preparation, b) Food management including storage, c) Calculating daily rations per child, d) Nutrition, e) Hygiene and f) Record keeping. Neighbourhood Care Points (NCPs)
Support to vulnerable children out-of-school is carried out through NCP structures located in Lowveld, Lubombo Plateau and Dry Middleveld. The total number of targeted OVC is 45,000. Similar to the school feeding programme, Save the Children delivers food commodities to all NCPs in the targeted areas. Each NCP prepares a morning meal and lunch. Save the Children also provides training to the NCP Care Givers in the same areas as of the school feeding scheme.
Complementary Interventions
Since the feeding programme aims at improving the quality of education for Swazi children, Save the Children is committed to supporting schools and NCPs beyond just the provision of food.
