The prolonged dry spell and devastating effects of HIV&AIDS have seen Swaziland having over 130 000 orphaned and vulnerable children, projected to be over 200 000 by 2010. Many of these orphaned and vulnerable children are losing access to basic education, health and social services. Further more, OVC are traumatised from abuse and caring for sick and dying parents with little to no access to counselling and psychosocial support. The combined effects of the long drought period, escalating HIV&AIDS prevalence, low harvests and escalating food prices have dilapidated the already underprivileged and poverty stricken child-headed households which are becoming a common occurrence in the country. A UNICEF survey identified 10,616 children living in 2,666 child-headed households (2002). With no statistics on the numbers of AIDS-related deaths to date, it is likely that these numbers are still increasing. Such children are at particularly high risks of sexual abuse and exploitation, creating a favourable environment for a “second cycle” of the epidemic. You... can turn this wheel around. Join us as we rescue and Save the Children from a gloomy future to give them hope and an opportunity to become. By sponsoring one of such children with school fees, clothing, proper shelter, food items, etc you will be counted among those who have redefined the future for our underprivileged children and tomorrow’s leaders.
